I've noticed that I most often take notes during the same charging session – this is already the fourth blog post written in the evening at this charger.
Why am I standing at a charger in the evening? Usually after I've added something to the car, I'm testing something, or I simply want to go for a drive, and before heading home I charge the battery to 80%.
Today I'm testing the theory I wrote about in the post from 16.10.2024. It got me in a reflective mood – the Tesla has already done about 2,500 km, and in a week it's going in for service to fix the cameras that aren't working. Despite these hardware and software issues, I still love driving the Tesla.
I hope everything will work as it should after the service, because between 31.10 and 02.11 we have quite a few trips ahead of us. First I'll take the Tesla on the route Mińsk Mazowiecki -> Wrocław (via Łódź) -> Mińsk Mazowiecki, and then J. and I will drive to Sopot together. That'll be a real test over a longer distance – so far our trips have been limited to 30-40 km one way to J.'s family, and today we did an even 100 km while running errands. A 300-400 km route is a completely different league, probably with the need to charge along the way.
Energy consumption so far has been pretty good: on national roads we get around 13 kWh/100 km without much trouble. J. commutes to work with 60% of the route on the motorway, and there consumption is closer to 17.5 kWh/100 km. It's slowly improving – those 17.5 kWh were my autumn assumption, so I'm happy.
Today I also noticed something new – the Tesla navigation has "Hungry" (finds nearby restaurants) and "I'm Feeling Lucky" (points you to the nearest points of interest) options. The "I'm Feeling Lucky" option will need testing; maybe I'll find something interesting and post a few photos on Instagram or TikTok. Lately I haven't been posting LEGO photos, because... "I don't have time to build LEGO, I'm driving a Tesla". 😄
Along the way I discovered that after selecting the "Charging" option, the Tesla once again shows other companies' chargers, not just Tesla's. Previously I only remembered GreenWay from that menu, and now the list of companies is much longer. What's more, the Tesla preconditions the battery for fast charging if a fast charger is selected in the navigation, which is really useful. Great!
Finally, a few numbers since the last post with data:
Distance driven: 455 km, energy used: 70 kWh (about 90% of the battery), average consumption: 15.3 kWh/100 km.
PS. After today's charge the 6th charging cycle appeared, and with it... the first sign of battery degradation! For now it's a mere 0.05%, which means some 300-350 metres less range. The first degradation always hurts, like the first paint chip (still waiting for that one) or the first scuffed rim. But it's a known phenomenon – the battery degrades fastest in the first two years, then the process slows down. We'll see after how many kilometres we hit 1% degradation. Hopefully as late as possible!
