This morning we set off from the Sheraton hotel shortly after 7. Tesla Navi predicted a 2-hour drive to Szczyrk and it was spot on. The route took us along the DK52, then along back roads to join a short stretch of the S1 in Żywiec and turn off after 8 km to our destination.
Impressions from the road:
We got a real taste of what heating with "anything and everything" means, because at times the smell of smoke through the villages was really strong. On one shaded stretch of road, on a bend, there was ice. The Tesla's wheels slipped slightly, but the systems reacted quickly. We noticed it more by sound than physically. A strange feeling, especially since it was +8 degrees!
A day in Szczyrk:
After we arrived, J went skiing, and I, taking advantage of free electricity (92% charge included in the Sheraton's parking fee), decided to grab something to eat, wash the car and explore the area.
At a touchless car wash in Bielsko-Biała I spent 40 PLN, but the result wasn't great – although at least I'm no longer wiping mud off with my trouser legs when getting out.
From Bielsko I set off for Cieszyn intending to explore the old town, but the number of cars put me off - maybe I'll try on Wednesday. Back via Wisła to Szczyrk, a quick rest and picking up my wife from the ski station.
Next stages:
After skiing, a quick lunch at the Gucio restaurant in Szczyrk, a short visit to Action in Ustroń, and at 4 pm we reached the Crystal Mountain hotel in Wisła for a well-deserved rest. Here, too, car charging is included in the parking fee, so over the next few days I plan to explore the area while J is carving up the slopes.
Summary of the day:
- Kraków - Szczyrk: 113.11 km, energy used: 20.76 kWh
- Driving around Szczyrk and Bielsko-Biała: 21.43 km, energy used: 2.14 kWh
- Bielsko - Ustroń - Szczyrk: 104.8 km, energy used: 19.1 kWh
- Szczyrk - Action Ustroń - Crystal Mountain Wisła: 42.96 km, energy used: 5.86 kWh
Total: 282.28 km and 47.86 kWh
Fun fact:
I have the impression that the Tesla recovers more energy going downhill in the mountains than it uses climbing. For example, the Szczyrk - Ustroń route used only 3.1 kWh over 21 km.
I'm planning to test this more thoroughly - maybe I'll drive up to Biały Krzyż, then come back down and compare the energy use in both directions. Sounds like a plan!
