Mountain routes in the Tesla – Szczyrk, Cieszyn and the surrounding area
Tuesday
A day full of driving on mountain roads! In the morning we set off towards Szczyrk, Cieszyn and the surrounding area. The total distance was 177.14 km, and energy consumption 25.7 kWh.
Of course there had to be an uphill and downhill test on the route Biały Krzyż – lower station of Skrzyczne in Szczyrk:
- Downhill: 8.5 km, energy recovered 0.96 kWh
- Uphill: 8.5 km, consumption 3.12 kWh
- In total: 17 km, consumption 2.16 kWh (average ~13 kWh/100 km)
Next, the drive up Równica:
- Uphill: 13.32 km, consumption 3.74 kWh
- Downhill: 12.28 km, consumption 0.84 kWh
In the evening a quick drive down to the shop and back. Normally I'd never take the car when I can see the shop from the window, but… it's 2 km downhill and a 150-meter difference in elevation. 😉
- Distance: 3.8 km
- Consumption: 0.92 kWh
Wednesday
The morning started with driving J to the ski slope. On the way I checked out the Beskid slope, but the snow wasn't anything to write home about. Shortly afterwards I was going back to pick J up, because on the slope there was… practically no snow. 🙃
- Distance: 107.34 km
- Consumption: 16.16 kWh
Later, lunch in Szczyrk and a drive to Istebna, to Kubalonka:
- Distance: 49.12 km
- Consumption: 8.76 kWh
A short walk up the hill, a quick photo session and back to the hotel via Węgierska Górka. A totally roundabout route, just to enjoy the views and drive around. 😃
- Distance: 114.7 km
- Consumption: 18.64 kWh
Summary
In total over two days:
- 477.7 km
- 74.76 kWh (the battery capacity is about 75-76kWh, so those 470 km are the real range)
- Average consumption: ~16 kWh/100 km
Not bad! 💪
🔹 Recommended: the view from Kubalonka, the area around Ochodzita, the route through Węgierska Górka.
🔸 Not recommended: the roads near the Czech border – narrow, squeezed between houses, very stressful.
The Tesla copes well in the mountains, and regenerative braking is a great help on the descents! 🚗⚡
