Time for a report from our summer getaway to the mountains. Destination: Szczyrk, via Kraków, because man cannot live on peaks alone — sometimes you have to go to a concert. 😉

Mińsk Mazowiecki → Karczew → Kraków

We set off on Monday with about 60% battery. Charging? Not before leaving — only along the way, at the Jastrząb race track. With a Plugsurfing promo at 1.35 PLN/kWh and a relaxed pace (the limit +10, "Polish style") we made it to Kraków. Consumption: ~17 kWh/100 km. Unfortunately, travelling with the air conditioning on full didn't do my throat any favours…

In the evening a fever, my throat "shut down", the whole of Tuesday under the duvet. Even so, I somehow made it to the concert at Tauron Arena. But... it hurt (and not just my throat). The acoustics in the stands were dreadful – last place out of our last three concerts (for comparison: Adele #1, Ed Sheeran #2, Billie sadly #3). Maybe the cold played a part? I asked J – she felt exactly the same.

Kraków → Szczyrk

On Wednesday morning we set off for Szczyrk – me as a passenger in zombie mode, the car topped up to 83% at the hotel. On the way a quick stop at Czarna Wisełka – we made it to station 4 of the trail and... turned back. No energy left.

Lunch at Gucio – sadly a letdown. Half a year ago it was our number 1, today – inedible. But at least charging was cheap again: 1.35 PLN/kWh (Plugsurfing). Meanwhile, Elocity: 2.19 PLN… and without an invoice.

Thursday — Skrzyczne!

Sick or not – Skrzyczne and Barania Góra were the plan, so that's what it would be. We set off on foot from Polana Jaworowa below Skrzyczne – after 2.5 hours we managed to reach the summit, but only just. Then tomato soup (outstanding!), Małe Skrzyczne, down by gondola and a walk to the apartment. Yes, uphill, and later... we covered the 300 metres to the restaurant by car. 😄

Dinner at Meta – charging + a top-notch sorrel soup, but the main course… let's not talk about it. Second restaurant, second letdown. 🙁

Friday — Barania was the plan

The weather did its thing – a typical "Szczyrk storm": strobe lightning + a downpour. The plan was a walk up to Przysłop. We only made it to station 9 – our lungs gave up. Time to turn back. We were about 1 km short, but you have to look after your health.

To sweeten things up – Destylarnia. The food was very good: main courses 4/5, Julia's dessert – a solid 4.5/5. Finally some culinary satisfaction!

Szczyrk → Karczew → Mińsk Mazowiecki

After the meal - a quick decision: head home, no point going back in the morning since we weren't going to go anywhere anyway. We started with 30% battery and reached the SuC in Katowice with 16%. Unfortunately it was pretty busy, max 150 kW. After 20 minutes, at 60%, we moved on – heading for Tomaszów Mazowiecki. There was supposed to be a Polenergia charger at 1.35 PLN/kWh, but... the promotion had ended the day before. 😢

We charged at 2.48 PLN/kWh, consumption: 20 kWh/100 km. Then a quick stop in Karczew to pick up the cat and finally home – the Tesla at 27%.

Summary according to Tessie:

  • 1,151 km driven
  • 184.6 kWh of energy used
  • Cost: 391.52 PLN
  • Average consumption: 16 kWh/100 km
  • Cost per 100 km: 34 PLN

Conclusions?
The Tesla handles road trips just fine, especially with charging promos. The charging infrastructure at restaurants and hotels — really great. But Szczyrk… seems to have gone a bit downhill for us food-wise. The views and the mountains, though – as beautiful as ever.
